Ingress, the game.

It's happening all around you. They aren't coming. They're already here.

For those not yet a part of Ingress but would like to join us in this fun and free event, read on. Ingress, a very ambitious mobile game from Niantic Labs @Google available for both Android and iOS devices, takes players out of their house and out to into the physical world we live in, transforming our neighborhoods and cities into an interactive experience.

After you download the free app, Ingress players have to choose a side to play on and venture out into the community to “fight” for their side. With over 8 million downloads worldwide, that means a lot of your neighbors and friends are already out there playing in your very own town.

At its core, the fictional aspect of the game asserts that Earth is exuding a substance called "exotic matter" (abbreviated into XM) which seeps out through Portals. XM is being used either to enslave humanity or to evolve us into higher consciousness, depending on the side you wish to believe and play in. Basically, you need to choose between the Resistance or the Enlightened and you're either on the Blue team or the Green team ;-).

Players have to go out and use their mobile app and navigate to Portals, which are located at monuments, squares, churches and other public sites that you have happily been unaware of, until now. Florence has many spread out over the city, and every day the struggle between the Resistance and Enlightened continues in the daily takeover, defense and linking of these portals to control the globe for their faction, as well as the fate of humanity ;-).

Beyond #Shonin Florence...

Over the last few weeks, in collaboration with Niantic Labs’ Ingress team in Europe, our team has lent assistance in the creation of several new Missions at main sights and monuments in Florence which include Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, Piazzale Michelangelo, the Duomo, Piazza Santa Maria Novella and Piazza Santa Croce. These are already active so you can head out and play right away: by completing each mission, you'll earn a badge with our logo on it! These will remain active after the event, as they are not tied to each other.

Join in on the greater fun on February 21st (all the details are above) when hundreds and hundreds of field agents from across the globe will come to Florence to play together and “capture” portals for their team. Across the globe, other events like the one in Florence will take place contemporaneously and we will see results real-time to see which faction leads worldwide. If this is the first time you've heard of Ingress and will be or are in Florence on this date, I highly recommend you take the dive and come out and play together.

We'll be there - see you there!
