Florence is famous throughout the world for its artistic and architectural treasures, but after having a full immersion in culture, why not dedicate some hours to shopping?

In the city center, shops are not lacking, and there is something for everyone: from department stores to the flagship stores of international brands, from the stores of luxury designers overlooking the most elegant streets (Via Tornabuoni chief among all) to the artisan workshops in Oltrarno if you are looking for handmade products.

Outside of Florence, there are also several alternatives for shopping, including outlets and factory stores of famous brand where you might find some greats deals (you can find a list of the main outlets in Tuscany here).

One of these is found just 30 minutes north of Florence in the Mugello valley. Right outside Barberino di Mugello, you'll find the Barberino Designer Outlet, part of the McArthurGlen Group, with over 100 shops, including major brands of Italian and international fashion designers.

The Outlet is located about 30 km from Florence and can be reached easily by car or by bus/shuttles in about half an hour.

SHOPPING TOUR at the Barberino Designer Outlet (departure from Florence)

Book a tour to the Barberino Designer Outlet and enjoy a day of shopping: buses depart every day from Piazza Stazione in Florence and lead you straight to the Outlet and back to the starting point, after your shopping.

You can choose among four bus times to go to the Outlet and return to Florence:
Departure: 1st run - 9:30 am / 2nd run - 11:30 am / 3rd run - 2 pm / 4th run - 4 pm
Return: 1st run 1pm / 2nd run 3 pm / 3rd run - 6 pm / 4th run 8 pm

The tour includes transportation by bus equipped with air conditioning and a special shopping card that allows you to get an additional 10% discount in selected shops. Costs start at 15 €. You can find all details and make your reservation HERE.

The Barberino Designer Outlet is a shopping village: located in a suburban area, it looks like a small town with many "houses" side by side that lodge the shops.

Among the advantages of an outlet like the Barberino Designer Outlet is undoubtedly the high concentration of stores of major brands in a limited area. You'll find Italian and international famous brands such as Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Cavalli, Patrizia Pepe, Michael Kors, Pinko, Furla, but many international ones such as Guess, Twin Set, Desigual, Hugo Boss, Nike and Adidas, to name a few among the best known.

If you are afraid to get lost and lose your favorite brand, walking in to the center of the mall you'll find a free, detailed map of the Outlet.

The stores promise discounts of 30 to 70% compared to the selling price in ordinary shops and often there are more special promotions that will entice you to do a lot of shopping. If you love the big brands, you just only run the risk of finding some great deals, grabbing that dress or bag or that pair of shoes you had spotted at a higher cost in the city store.

Shopping can make you hungry, especially if you choose to stay at Barberino Designer Outlet all day. Don't worry, you can take a break at one of the bars or restaurants in the center of the outlets. You will find pizza, traditional Tuscan dishes, but also a point of Asian cuisine if you prefer more inventive dishes.
For the lovers of sweets and chocolate, I highly recommend a stop at the Lindt store, where you will find a great selection from the famous Swiss chocolate factory.

If you visit the Outlet with your children, there is a playground where they can romp a bit between one purchase and the other (it is open to children ages 3 and up).
